Cancer Registry Fact: Cancer registrars’ work goes far beyond simply collecting cancer data. They also provide support for cancer program development, ensure compliance with reporting standards and serve as a valuable resource for cancer information.

This month’s Registry Rock Star is Karen, a cancer information specialist for CHAMPS Oncology

Karen has been working in the cancer registry profession for 18 years. She became a CTR because she wanted to be part of the fight to end a devastating disease that has affected so many people over the course of centuries. She comes from a family where helping people get well is important. Karen’s sister is a retired RN and her daughter is now a pediatric RN. The healthcare profession is where she wants to be…helping people in any capacity she can!

Fun Facts About Karen

  • Credentials: RHIT, CTR
  • During her free time, Karen enjoys gardening, riding her bike long distances, taking long hikes in the Metroparks, and taking care of her beautiful dog, Aria Giselle.
  • Her hometown is Macedonia, Ohio.
  • She already completed one item on her bucket list - snorkeling in the ocean, where she saw a mother dolphin swimming with her baby and overcame her biggest fear, sharks! It was an absolutely beautiful experience and something she will never forget.
  • Her favorite rock ‘n’ roll stars are Freddie Mercury, Bowie and Prince. She also enjoys Maroon 5 and Bruno Mars.

Registry Rock Star features a different CHAMPS Oncology employee every month. To learn more, follow #RegistryRockStar on social media.
