Proclamations Recognize New Mexico Cancer Registrars

Every year a proclamation is signed by the governor of my state to recognize New Mexico cancer registrars.

While this is an honor, Southern New Mexico cancer registrars can actually be few and far between. For example, in New Mexico's second largest city, Las Cruces, you might be surprised to learn there are only four registrars and one medical abstractor who are diligently reporting cancer cases. And this southern region of New Mexico consists of roughly 12 counties!

Due to this incredible feat, my fellow Southern New Mexico cancer registrars and I decided to guarantee our city recognize us as well. We ensure a proclamation is signed by our mayor annually, and on Monday I was honored to accept this year's - especially with 2018 National Cancer Registrars Week just around the corner!

Below are some photos of our group and this year's proclamations recognizing New Mexico cancer registrars. How does your state recognize the cancer registrar profession?

Update: I just learned today that one of our Certified Tumor Registrars is moving to Texas. So we literally have three CTRs (and I'm one) and one Medical Abstractor (in training) for the entire southern half of New Mexico...It is impressive.
