CHAMPS Oncology Submits 193,281 Error-Free Cases to the National Cancer Database

National Cancer Database

Since January, CHAMPS Oncology has submitted 193,281 error-free cases to the National Cancer Database on behalf of its clients for the 2019 Annual Call for Data.

The National Cancer Database (NCDB)—jointly sponsored by the American College of Surgeons and the American Cancer Society—is a clinical oncology database sourced from hospital registry data that are collected in more than 1,500 Commission on Cancer (CoC)-accredited facilities. NCDB data is used to analyze and track patients with malignant neoplastic diseases, their treatments, and outcomes.

“Submitting to NCDB is just one of the valued services CHAMPS Oncology performs for our clients and it’s a large undertaking,” said Regional Manager Amanda Harvey-McKee, BA, CTR. “It requires a lot of work to keep up with the changing submission criteria and corrections to ensure we have an error-free report for all of our clients. That’s why we take great pride in submitting high quality data, which ultimately effects patient care, which contributes to our mission to provide cancer programs and healthcare providers across the country with better data to save lives™.”

"In our short time working with CHAMPS Oncology, their commitment to quality data has been evident every step of the way," said Intermountain Healthcare Radiation Oncology Clinical Program Director Craig Nielsen. "I've been particularly impressed with the way they approached moving the cancer registry to a system model. Their efforts have increased our confidence in our ability to use the cancer registry data they collect."

"The legwork required to submit this number of error-free cases to NCDB is quite impressive," said OhioHealth Service Lines Quality Director Lori Bryant. "And CHAMPS Oncology surpassed our expectations by submitting prior to the posted deadline. This is just one of many successes we've celebrated in our years of partnership."

In 2019, the National Cancer Database transitioned to a new system and database vendor, IQVIA and the Call for Data submission window ran from April 1, 2019 through June 30, 2019. The 2019 Call for Data included all cancer cases diagnosed in 2017, all analytic cases added or changed between the reference year, and 2016. Failure to submit these required cases during the open window can impact cancer program's accreditation status and reporting of the NCDB tools.
