Vontyna Smith, MPA
Director of Client Operations
Vontyna Smith is the director of client operations for CHAMPS Oncology. In her role, she is responsible for ensuring operational effectiveness, overseeing the client services team and contributing to the development and implementation of strategies, policies, and practices.
Smith has more than 15 years of healthcare experience in the areas of clinical research, oncology and mental health. Prior to joining CHAMPS, she supervised and managed the cancer registry department for nearly a decade at Cleveland Clinic’s main campus.
Smith has assisted new and existing cancer programs in achieving and maintaining compliance with the Commission on Cancer (CoC) Standards. She has also improved business operations by strategically partnering with cancer programs, developed processes to assess cancer registry workflow and productivity, and supervised cancer committees.
She earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology from Eastern Michigan University and a Masters of Public Administration from The University of Toledo. She is currently working on her doctorate in healthcare administration at Walden University headquartered in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Two of her proudest accomplishments include being awarded the ProMedica Toledo Children’s Hospital Employee of the Year Award in 2007 and receiving the Cleveland Clinic Caregiver’s Excellence Award in 2014.
In August of 2018, Smith presented at the ACS CAN Northern Ohio 2018 Policy Forum. She focused on the important role cancer programs play in establishing systems to alleviate the barriers patients face when accessing care or clinical trials.
