The Registry Rock Star for the month of June is Julie McClain, CTR! Before joining the CHAMPS Oncology team as a cancer information specialist, Julie entered the medical field in 1999, working in a hospital operating room as a surgical technologist and surgery scheduler. After hearing about the cancer registry, she became fascinated with it as a career choice and decided to apply.
“At the time, I was experiencing career burnout and I was ready for a change,” Julie, who now has nearly three years under her belt in the cancer registry, explained. “After learning more about the cancer registry, I realized this was for me. I have a science background and have always enjoyed learning about the human body and medicine.”
According to Julie, her favorite thing about her line of work is the positive impact it has on cancer care. In addition, she enjoys being able to learn new things and loves the challenges put in front of her each and every day.
Julie resides in central Illinois. In her time off, she likes spending time with her nine-year-old son, Carson. A lover of sports, Julie attends horseracing events with her fiancé. On top of that, she recently started learning pickleball and also plays golf and tennis.
As for items on her bucket list, her dream is to live near a beach when she retires.

Kelly is what people would call a "boomerang employee" — someone who leaves a company and later returns to work for the company again. But, as she explains in this #OncologyOutlook blog, that isn't a bad thing and it actually helped her further appreciate everything CHAMPS Oncology has to offer: https://bit.ly/341yGbx
