Benefits of Mentoring in the CTR Profession

In my 30+ years of experience in the cancer registry field, I’ve grown extremely passionate about the benefits of mentoring in the CTR profession.

In fact, I believe mentoring new registrars is one of the very best ways to promote the profession. So I was extremely honored when last month I was able to share my thoughts on the topic in the summer edition of the NCRA Connection. In my article, “Mentoring in the CTR Profession: Four Areas You Should Know,” I outline the benefits of mentoring in the CTR profession and highlight four ideas I share as a mentor.

While the topics CTRs may address as mentors are limitless, these four always rise to the top of my list:

  1. High-Quality Data is the Cornerstone of Our Work
  2. Self-Confidence Builds Your Credibility
  3. Professionalism Matters
  4. CTRs Make a Difference

In my piece for NCRA, I elaborate on these topics and discuss the many benefits of mentoring in the CTR profession. You can read the full piece in the e-edition of the NCRA Connection. As I say in my article, “Our work is changing the care of cancer patients. Making sure my mentees understand that is probably the most important lesson I can impart and the most meaningful way I can contribute to promoting the cancer registry profession.”
