Meet April's Registry Rock Star: Mary

This month’s Registry Rock Star is Mary Price, RHIA, CTR. A cancer information specialist for CHAMPS Oncology, Mary has always had a desire to take care of people. Before she began working her 12 years in the cancer registry, Mary was looking for the best way to enter the healthcare field. She eventually found the cancer registry field, which has allowed her to become involved with patient care without working in hands-on environments, as she is squeamish when it comes to routine medical tests like blood work.

“Unfortunately, I am not very good with interacting with blood and other issues which may come up while caring for someone,” said Mary.

“With my organizational and computer skills, the cancer registry was the logical career path and is a great way for me to help and contribute to the well-being of patients.”

For Mary, the most fulfilling part of her role is knowing that her input counts towards a cure for cancer. She loves working with computers and data, so being able to use both in her day-to-day work with the cancer registry is like a dream come true for her.

“Collecting data for research and treatment of cancer patients is very rewarding for me,” she said. “I know and hope for the day when all of our hard work will result in a cure for cancer!”

In her free time, Mary likes to spend time with her family, including her six grandchildren. She jokes that her grandchildren keep her young. As for items of her bucket list, she hopes to visit Paris one day and have lunch with the Eiffel Tower gracing the background.
