Nicklaus Children’s Hospital Receives Award from Florida Cancer Data System for their Cancer Quality Standards



Nicklaus Children’s Hospital Receives Award from Florida Cancer Data System for their Cancer Quality StandardsCHAMPS Oncology’s Rosalba Marte, CTR, also receives recognition for her contributions.

CHAMPS Oncology’s valued client, Nicklaus Children’s Hospital, was recently recognized and presented with the Jean Byers Award for Excellence in Cancer Registration by the Florida Cancer Data System (FCDS) for their cancer quality standards.

“We would like to be the first to congratulate our client, Nicklaus Children’s Hospital, on receiving this well-deserved award from the FCDS,” said Amanda Harvey-McKee, BA, CTR, regional manager, CHAMPS Oncology. “This is a great honor and we’d like to acknowledge the entire cancer registry team for all of the hard work they’ve done in order to achieve this recognition.”

This award is given each year by the FCDS to those facilities that have met or exceeded the national cancer quality standards for timeliness and completeness in cancer reporting.

This award was given to the cancer registries who met the following criteria for 2016 Data Submission in 2018:

  • Annual Caseload Submission Deadlines
  • Follow Up Submission Deadlines
  • Death Certificate Notifications
  • No more than 5% (or 35 cases) of cases submitted after the Annual Caseload Submission Deadline
  • No more than 10% of cases submitted 12 months after the deadline

“We are honored to be recognized for our commitment to offering the highest in quality care to the patients and families we serve,” said Dr. Enrique Escalon, director of the Division of Hematology/Oncology at Nicklaus Children's Hospital.

In addition, CHAMPS Oncology’s Cancer Information Specialist Rosalba Marte, CTR, also received the 2018 Pat Straight Award, which recognizes the professionals who help the facilities achieve the Jean Byers Award. Marte will receive a certificate of gratitude and appreciation for helping the facility achieve exceptional quality from FCDS.
