New SOC Code Recognizes Critical Role of Cancer Registrars

SOC CodeCHAMPS Oncology is pleased to announce the Bureau of Labor Statistics has established a new Standard Occupational Classification (SOC) code for health information technologists and medical registrars. This SOC Code reflects the increased use of data to improve medical care and treatment and the critical role cancer registrars play in the collection and analysis of cancer data.

The new SOC code will ensure:

  • Accurate statistics on the cancer registry workforce.
  • Clearer understanding of the current and future workforce needs.
  • Correct salary information to help recruit and retain qualified individuals.
  • Qualified CTRs to fill positions at the central and hospital levels.

“Together, with NCRA, many of us have lobbied for this designation over the past 13 years,” said Toni Hare, RHIT, CTR, vice president, CHAMPS Oncology. “I am so thrilled these efforts have resulted in this new classification. Congratulations CTRs and CTR-eligible professionals!”
